Andrea Collesano was born in Pontedera in November 1980. After completing his diploma, he went on to graduate in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Florence, with a thesis in which he analysed the metaphoric and mythological figures in Bocklin's painting, paying particular attention to the zoomorphic part. He has lived and worked for several years in Forte dei Marmi. The marine element, nature and animals are his main source of inspiration. It pays particular attention to the animal world. His subjects range from small miniatures depicting tiny insects to large works, where whales and other mysterious creatures of the abyss reign. He loves drawing in ink on paper that he prepares himself, giving the material a flavour of ancient times and a feeling of melancholy serenity. The stains and the effects thus obtained from ageing often become the starting point for creating his beasts. Inspired by the ancient, the lost and the old symbolic and naturalists’ engravings, he tries to recreate the world that inhabits his mind.
