Directly inspired by poetry that reflects on journeys across the sea, the work draws on themes of movement and passage. The trees and fauna, stylised after Persian and Indian historic manuscripts, combine multiple species to evoke the transition from one landscape to another. The boats are empty, symbolising the countless people who have undertaken similar journeys in their own lives and throughout history. Having returned to land, humanity leaves the boats behind; they remain waiting, peaceful, inviting, and poised for their next passengers.
