Joseph Black lives and works in Kent. He trained at Camberwell College of Art, graduating with a BFA in painting in 2015, followed by a Masters Degree in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute in 2016.

Black’s work seeks to explore the influence of history and culture on our perception of reality, and draws on a wide array of references from Classical Antiquity to today. Often depicting objects imbued with symbolic potential or emotional value, he seeks to reveal the subtle shifts of meaning provoked by processes of reproduction and translation.
